We stopped his website selling fire extinguishers, so the business could start selling expertise.
Second generation. Björn Wiedemann took over the company from his parents, and with it their website — which had never been a priority for them. Everything on it pointed at what the company had always done: selling fire safety hardware. Extinguishers, equipment, stock.
It came out in an ordinary conversation. I asked what he actually sells, and what he would sell if he could choose. The answer was immediate: not extinguishers. They tie up storage, effort and margin. What he wanted was to be booked as a Brandschutzsachverständiger — a certified fire safety assessor.
There is a distinction in his trade that almost nobody outside it knows. A Brandschutzbeauftragter, the role most people have heard of, handles the small things. A Sachverständiger writes the actual assessments: complete fire safety concepts, specifying what has to be installed — and carries personal liability for that concept if something happens. He had trained for that qualification. His website never mentioned it.
That is the whole gap: qualified for the work he wanted, invisible for it.
We rebuilt the site around the qualification instead of around the catalogue.
What a Sachverständiger is. What the difference to a Beauftragter is, in plain words — because a building owner who doesn't know the difference cannot ask for the right one. What a concept covers, and what it means that he signs for it.
Then the part that decides whether any of it works: the search optimisation was pointed at exactly that term. SEO does not simply bring traffic, it decides what you are found FOR. A site optimised around “fire extinguisher” produces enquiries for fire extinguishers, forever.
The live site today opens with “Brandschutzsachverständiger, Brandschutzkonzepte” before anything else. The hardware became a footnote.
He has since won substantial contracts in Baden-Württemberg. He says so himself in the video — better heard from him than from us.
A one-off build; we do not maintain the site, so we have no ongoing figures beyond what he tells us.
And one thing worth saying out loud: when they came back later wanting a website for recruiting, I advised against it. Changing a website alone would not have brought them applicants — a funnel with paid advertising would. We talked ourselves out of that piece of work, and it was still the right answer.
A website that only looks nice is dead weight. Website Systems builds a site from your actual business goals — one that takes work off your plate and turns visitors into real enquiries.
