A brewery does not sell beer on its website. It sells the reason someone reaches for that bottle in the shop.

Where they stood

Hofmühl is a private brewery, and I am a customer of theirs — I drink their beer. That is the entire reason this build exists. Nobody asked for it.

What the real problem was

A brewery website has an odd job. Almost nobody buys beer through it. The sale happens later, in a shop, in front of a shelf, in about two seconds, between one bottle and the one next to it.

Which means the website is not a shop. It is the thing that decides whether someone reaches for this one. And a private brewery competing against groups cannot win that moment on price or on distribution. It wins it because people actively chose it.

That is worth taking seriously. The number of independent breweries in Germany keeps falling, and the ones that go are usually the ones nobody had a reason to be loyal to.

The decision — and why

We built the page around one sensation rather than around the company history.

Cold beer being poured, close, unhurried, the glass filling as you arrive.

The test for the whole build is simple and slightly ridiculous: you should want one by the time you leave the page. If that works, the shelf moment weeks later goes differently. Everything else — the range, the brewery, where to find it — sits behind that first feeling, not in front of it.

Tradition is on the page too, but as a supporting argument. Every brewery has copper kettles and heritage. Not every brewery makes you thirsty.

What it does for the business

If the page makes you thirsty, the shelf moment weeks later goes differently. That is the only job a brewery website has, and it is the one most of them skip.

Honest limit

A draft nobody commissioned, and the honest version is that I have not even made the call yet. I have the contact details and I intend to. Until then it is an unsolicited opinion about someone else's website, built by a fan — which is exactly what it looks like, and I would rather say that than dress it up.

A website that only looks nice is dead weight. Website Systems builds a site from your actual business goals — one that takes work off your plate and turns visitors into real enquiries.
