Where they stood

Dührkoop is a real jeweller in Ingolstadt — fine watches and jewellery. We already work with them on hiring, and that worked well, so I have known the business and its website for a long time. This build was not commissioned. I made it to show them what is actually possible.

What the real problem was

The site was not broken. It was emotionless. Everything on it was general: general categories, general copy, general jewellery. The two things a house like this actually has — the pieces themselves, and the room they sit in — were nowhere.

That matters more here than in most trades. Nobody buys a watch at this level from a thumbnail. They buy it after looking at it for a long time, from several angles, in good light. A page you cannot lean into is asking the customer to do the imagining, and at this price nobody does.

The same is true of the shop itself. I had been saying for a while that their marketing should put the house forward rather than another advertisement for jewellery in general. A jeweller's advantage is that they are somewhere, and that somewhere is worth walking into.

The decision — and why

The pieces move.

Products can be turned through a full 360°, looked at from every side, brought close. Not as a gimmick — as the nearest thing a screen can offer to standing at the counter.

And everything shown is real. No invented products, no AI-generated jewellery. Two reasons, and the second is the one that counts: generated product images are visible if you look, and they are pointless anyway — if the shop does not have that piece, showing it produces an enquiry nobody can fulfil. It is the same rule we apply to cars. Take what is actually there and get everything out of it.

What we would build next

A concept is only useful if it names its own next steps.

Walk into the shop from the hero: zoom in until it feels like entering, see the room, and book an appointment from inside the section you are standing in.

More pieces in 3D, and the option to see a piece placed in a real setting rather than on white.

The live gold price, embedded — for this clientele it is not decoration, it is context.

And a proper place for the flagship brands, so that “the new one is here” is something the website can say the day it arrives.

Honest limit

An unsolicited draft, built to demonstrate an approach — not a commissioned project and not a finished site. It uses the real business and its real pieces, which is the point, but it has never been through the one conversation that decides everything: what they actually want to sell more of.

A website that only looks nice is dead weight. Website Systems builds a site from your actual business goals — one that takes work off your plate and turns visitors into real enquiries.
